I just finished watching the inauguration.  I cried.  We’ve taken the first steps to leach away the poison of slavery.  I reveled in listening to a man who can form a coherent sentence.  As a writer I listened to the play of words written by a man who loves language.
I looked at the crowds stretching away from the Capitol.  A crowd that held black, white, brown and Asian faces.  Where women stood side by side with men.  Many of them were standing on the site where slaves had been auctioned.
I reflected on the fact that Michelle Obama’s ancestors were some of the slaves who built the Capitol.
A new era begins.  Let’s see what we can do to help.
