I keep seeing Tweets about how voting doesn’t matter. Voting doesn’t cut it. What’s the point? Look, the system is rigged, no doubt about that, allowing for minority rule, but it can be overcome with sheer numbers & there are more of us than there are of them. And I never see a suggestion about what to do in lieu of voting. So, what’s the alternative? Guns? Blood in the streets? Stars forbid we end up there, and there is still a chance to avoid that outcome — by voting. In numbers they cannot deny or overcome. We’ve only got one chance at this. After 2022 the right wing will have in place the people to nullify or outright ignore your vote.

People demanding that the President and Congress do something without us giving them the tools is just noise. The only way they can do something is if we hold the House and expand our majority in the Senate. That means that Warnock, Kelly, and Hassan have to hold their Senate seats & then we have to add Ryan in Ohio. Fetterman in PA, and Val Demings in Florida. I only know one way to do that — voting. If we accomplish that then Manchin and Sinema are cancelled out and it gives the Democrats the ability to end the filibuster, pass voting rights, protect abortion rights, pass real gun legislation, pass climate legislation. Not voting accomplishes this how?

And we’ve got to show up not just for the sexy national races, the down ballot races too. The January 6th hearings have shown us the importance of a Secretary of State. How about Attorney General? Will they prosecute women for seeking health care or refuse? Chief of police? Cops in L.A. are beating journalists at pro-choice rallies. Might want to avoid that by not electing some guy or gal who just wants to drive fast, shoot of guns and beat up people.

The right have been doing this for decades. They vote in large numbers, in every election, and in lock step for 50 years. Carefully taking over state legislatures, governors mansions, so they can gerrymander the hell out of a state which will then give them outsized power in Congress. They’re not stopping there, now they are going for school boards & city councils and passing laws that will make it far harder for Democrats or Democratic leaning Independents to vote. Seriously, if voting didn’t matter why is the GOP trying so hard to keep people from exercising that right?

So the question is before us; do we have the determination to match & surpass them?  I’m going to be there in November & before — donating, working. I hope there is an  blue army there with me. Because if we don’t we may not have the option in the future.

And then the guns and the blood are all that remains.
