On this day in 1977 Star Wars was released in the theaters. I was taking the Bar review course, studying 16 hours a day, my dad was in his final illness and the stress was about to kill me.

I had heard about this movie so my dear friend Victor Milan and I decided to go on opening day. Well, there were so many people all the showing had sold out so the theater added a midnight showing and Vic and I sat in this line outside the theater for hours while we waited for that midnight show. There was a MacDonalds just down the street so periodically someone would gather money and orders and run off to Mickey D’s for dinner.

Finally, we were in the theater and seated and when that Star Destroyer passed overhead and my life was forever changed. I went an saw Star Wars 6 or 7 times in the theater because it was the only way to ease my stress.

Upshot, I passed the Bar on the first try, and because of Star Wars, particularly Empire, I found my true vocation and became a writer. So thank you, Star Wars, and I suppose the Force really has been with me. And honestly, I really hope I’m around to celebrate the 50 year anniversary.
