I’ve been trying to post this link to a guest post on John Scalzi’s blog, but Facebook seems to be unwilling to allow the post to go up.
So, I’m going to put it here, and hope I can at least reference it over on Facebook.
I’m linking to an amazing guest blog post on John Scalzi’s blog. It is well worth reading, and before someone screams at me the VA removed the requirement from their law please recall it is still required in Texas and is poised to pass a lot more state legislatures.
That was a very good guest blog. It is good to see that there are voices of reason out there. My bafflement continues at how those laws are getting passed. I do notice that the two states most under discussion (Virginia and Texas) have very low historic voter turnout rates:
41: Virginia
Average voter registration rate: 65.8
Average voter participation rate: 51.6
48: Texas
Average voter registration rate: 67.0
Average voter participation rate: 48.6
Maybe that doesn’t have anything to do with it, but it seems likely not to be helping.
