Once again I think the President has walked the conservatives into a trap. He offers a compromise that still allows for women to get their birth control, and has been “sensitive” to religious issues. Both wins for him.
Question is, will the Bishops and the Republicans refuse to accept this compromise? If they do again point goes to Obama. They will look like dicks and hostile to women while the President once again looks like the rational adult in the room.
He really is the Roadrunner running circles around a gang of bemused Wiley Coyotes.
Yep, they did it. They’re walking right into it. I can’t believe they’re this dumb. Wait, yes I can.
“The Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, a non-profit law firm that recently filed three lawsuits on behalf of Catholic institutions against the new contraception rules, has come out against the the administration’s compromise.
“This is a false
Well, it may look that way to people who don’t think about the realities of the situation.
Contraception isn’t free; providing it uses scarce resources, which have to be paid for. A profit-making business can’t just give it away. Either it charges the users directly, or it treats it as overhead, and divides it up among all its customers. In the latter case, if women at Catholic organizations are “given” contraception, the organization will be paying for it, either directly in higher premiums, or indirectly through a rise in premiums charged to all organizations
I’ll live with the disapproval because I am so damn sick of men telling me how I have to behave, and what I can and can not do with my own body. I grew up in an era where I was constantly told “You can’t be president, a jokey, an astronaut because you’re a girl.”
And the hypocrisy is so blatant. They’ll pay for viagra, and somehow I don’t think failure to achieve an erection is in the same class with an unplanned and unwanted pregnancy.
And insurance companies make a huge damn profit, they can provide this essential health care for women.
And finally, the GOP is now arguing that private employers can refuse coverage for anything which violates their religious morality. So now a Christian Scientist can refuse to provide insurance? Or refuse to pay for blood transfusions? This is moronic. I can picture a lot of sleaze bags saying they believe in prayer over medicine to avoid providing health insurance. And as long as we don’t have a national health care system, and insurance is so expensive most people’s only recourse is employer provided insurance.
And a P.S. Insurance companies would far rather pay for the pill then pay for a pregnancy. A pregnancy is waay more expensive then contraception.
