So I wrote these three urban fantasy novels under a pseudonym — Phillipa Bornikova because I didn’t want to risk reader confusion and these were really different from the Edge book and the Imperials books. For one thing they are in first person and they have vampires, and werewolves and elves, Oh My!
After my beloved editor was taken ill the books fell into a black hole and the third book didn’t come out for several years. When I finally got a new editor both he and the publisher decided they didn’t want anymore stories about lady lawyer in a vampire law firm so what I had planned for book four needed to be thrown out and I had to come up with a very sudden and tacked on ending to book three.
Long story short I got the rights to those books back, and in partnership with a dear friend and very savvy marketing guy we are bringing the books back into print, but this time under my own name, and I am busy taking the end of book 3 back to what I intended so I can write more books about this world. Alexi is looking for the right artist for the covers and with luck they will go on sale early in 2020. Just for everyone’s information the titles are THIS CASE IS GONNA KILL ME. BOX OFFICE POISON and PUBLISH AND PERISH.
And now I need to get back to Linnet’s very bad, totally weird and precarious situation.
They sound like great fun. Sorry I missed them the first time around.
I loved these books. I was so sad when you said the third was the end of series. I’m glad she is coming back!!!
Thank you. I really appreciate that. I’m not sure when I’ll get to book 4. Right now I’m trying to clean up the final 2 chapters of 3 and get them back to what I wanted. But I hope to write more about Linnet and her Scooby Gang.
When it comes out, I will certainly get a copy. Do you have a tentative title?
Not yet. Probably something that suggests how life is easier when you’re white and male.
Did you finish revising book three? I just finished listening to all three books for the second time. I love Linnet. I love David, Sid and others, too!
Yes, I’ve revised book 3 and it’s been turned in. Has a very different ending then what got published. As soon as I get this very large rewrite of my second book of the Carolingian series out of the way I will lay out the outline for Linnet book 4, and get started on writing that one. Thanks so much for the kind words. It means a great deal to me.
Glad to see this series is continuing. Stumbled across book one on my kindle after finishing Imperials 4. As someone who grew up around the law (and lawyers) I found them terribly entertaining. Seeing Kelo v. City of New London get a name drop in book 1 made me spit-take my tea. Got a bit confused by the pseudonym bit when I went looking for number 3 and saw the older publication dates. I’ll be glad to wait for book 3 with it’s proper ending now.
What a lovely message to find this morning. My first publisher thought there would be reader confusion because my other work is so different from White Fang Law, but new indy publishers thought the whole notion was crazy so we went back to my name.
Interestingly enough today I begin to lay out the outline for book 4 of the series. I’m going to be (attempting) to write 2 books at the same time — the fourth White Fang Law and the Fourth Carolingian novel about the war between science and rationality, and superstition, magic and religion. I come down on the side of science.
Thank you again for reaching out. It means a lot to me.
