I got some very interesting advice from a friend and fellow writer yesterday over lunch. She said my essays here on my blog are too long. She explained that people don’t tend to scroll. That made sense to me, and gave me an enormous sense of relief. If I don’t have to craft such long thoughtful posts I may be more inclined to post here. So I’m going to try it.
I would say that it depends on the subject. You have some very interesting posts that I just don’t think would do well enough in the short form. I enjoy how your mind works over an issue. Short posts are fine, and certainly less dreadful to approach when you have so many other writing tasks, but please don’t feel that all of us believe your longer posts aren’t valuable-or read-to the end.
Thanks for the feedback, Eric. I think what my friend was suggesting was write the long post, but put it up in discreet bites rather then as one large banquet. It does help in the sense that it might inspire me to post more often if I don’t feel like I have to write a dissertation.
