Okay, members of Congress should have to have a minimum IQ before they are allowed to serve. Rep. Louie Gohmert of Texas clearly would not meet that minimum threshold. Here are his “insightful” comments regarding the Denver movie theater massacre.
“You know what really gets me, as a Christian, is to see the ongoing attacks on Judeo-Christian beliefs, and then some senseless crazy act of a derelict takes place,”
He went on to suggest that the shootings were still “a terrorist act” that could have been avoided if the country placed a higher value on God.
Okay, the first statement is just divorced from objective reality. Because kids can’t be forced to pray to a Christian god in school any longer some gun nut kills people in a movie theater? Huh?
Ole Louie goes on to become even more deranged and unmoored from reality when he add:
“It does make me wonder, with all those people in the theater, was there nobody that was carrying a gun that could have stopped this guy more quickly?”
Yeah, I always take my Beretta to the movies with me. And I’m sure in a darkened theater, and blinded by the light from the screen, terrified, and in a room filled with equally terrified people I would manage to aim perfectly and take down the gunman without hitting a single innocent person.
Gohmert is one of the same cadre of haters who joined with Michelle Bachmann to smear a loyal American who is serving her country in the State Department, Huma Abedin John McCain regained a lot of my respect when he called out this kind of fear mongering on the floor of the senate.
So here’s a message for voters in Texas. Seriously, guys, do you really want to be represented by this kind of stupid? Maybe you should consider a change.
Yeah, were sentient beings capable of over-riding our emotional responses with logical ones. Most states do not allow you to take your concealed carry into public places.
My biggest problem with your politicians response is the “what-ifs”. Hind sight is 20/20, there is no way to prevent a demented, psychotic individual from carrying out horrifying actions like what happened in Aurora.
Now that we’ve all vented a liltte, there are some things I’d really like to know the answers to, at least for starters.1) Where did this character get the money for what appears to be several thousand dollars in high-tech combat equipment (when was the last time you saw a shooter in body armor, for pity’s sake ?? ??The armor alone would cost thousands, and the weapons he was carrying were not cheap, as were the explosives he had in his apartment.2) Where did this fellow acquire all these explosives ? From what I am seeing and reading, the Aurora authorities describe the explosives setup as extremely sophisticated . How did the man find the time to learn how to set up, handle and use this stuff ?3) Where did he get the training to use his weaponry the way he did ?? From what I gather, this was a pretty well-thought-out action. He isolated and enclosed his targets (thus achieving a relatively high kill-rate per number of shots fired, I am told), protected himself from return fire better than most SWAT team members would have (the tear gas), and apparently had a last-stand strategy (the explosives in his apartment) that would have been absolutely devastating to attackers had he made it back to his apartment. This man had a strategy designed to maximize loss of life and casualties. If this fellow is an amateur, he’s a pretty damn good one.4) When he was surrounded by police, why did he surrender as quickly as he did ? I’m not saying it was a bad thing that he did, for some extremely obvious reasons, but quite often shooters like this will prefer to go out in a blaze of glory . (Klebold and Harris come to mind here.) This fellow was intelligent enough to realize that he was going away for life if he was caught. So why did he surrender so meekly ?5) Some of the news reports indicate that there was at least one explosive device planted in the theater prior to the attack. If true, how come no one spotted this earlier ? How did this fellow come to have access to the theater to plant the device ?6) Finally; this man was a Ph.D candidate in neurosciences. Was he involved with any sort of research in mind-altering drugs/devices/programming ? And what were his funding sources ? Who was he involved with, if anyone, in his research ?Answering those questions would go a long, long way towards a possible explanation of this slaughter. Anyone who might be able to provide some possible answers pipe up ! Inquiring minds want to know ! Your servant,Lord Karth
There wasn’t an explosive device in the theater. That seemed to be a panicked rumor that began. As for the explosives — he’s a really bright guy, and this information isn’t hard to come by. He was also deeply mentally ill, and under psychiatric care. His doctor informed the campus police, and the local police that he was dangerous, but it seemed to fall through the cracks. He’s also from an upper middle class family so money probably wasn’t a problem, and you put it on your credit card, and pay off your guns, and 6000 rounds of ammo over time.
I had a long talk at the barn party last night with a psychiatrist. so many of these mass murders are caused by people who are mentally ill, and background checks either aren’t run, or they slip through. As I’ve said elsewhere, I’m a gun owner, but some rational, sensible gun laws are needed, and we need buy-back programs. There are too many guns in this country.
