I found myself watching part of Bush’s disingenuous, actually disgusting, final press conference yesterday. The only mistake acknowledged was one of public relations — shouldn’t have hung that Mission Accomplished banner on the aircraft carrier. Otherwise there were only “disappointments”, about the lack of WMD, and Abu Gharab. The only passion was reserved for arguing that America’s standing in the world had not been damaged by his out of...

It snowed again on Friday night, maybe a couple of inches. This time I didn’t have to jump into crises mode and find someone to plow the road. Saturday morning I was returning from the health club (I did a session with a trainer, and he was great. More on that later.) Anyway, I’m drivng down my long, curving driveway. Overhead the sky was an intense turquoise blue. The clouds had all reatreated to the distant horizons like dragons waiting to...

Hi, Guys, I’ve gotten some feedback that Joomla was making it really hard to comment to blog posts, and that things were moving slowly.I told the amazing Web Queen, Corie Conwell, and she has made some adjustments. I hope this helps. I’ve been missing the conversations. I’m sure some of it is the holidays — I’ve been a stranger, but I hope we can get back to speed here in the new year.

The holidays are over and it’s time to return to the gym so I was going through my gym bag in search of a swim cap. The cap wasn’t in the bag, but something else was — a collection of millet seed from the bird feeder outside my bedroom, and small bits of cat food stolen from the cat feeding station in the laundry room at the other end of the house.I had noticed the cats kept peering into the gym bag, but I thought it was because they wanted to climb in. It seems...

So, it’s time for that End of the Holiday ritual known as the Denuding of the Tree. Since I bought an 11 foot tall tree. (I have a really tall ceiling where the tree stands), I need help placing the top decorations. I had a party this year with home made eggnog and posole to put up the tree. It’s a little harder to have a party to take it down.Pat Rogers has volunteered to help me and since she five feet ten inches tall I’m very grateful. We can...

I’m so glad 2008 is almost over. It was a year of great joy — Obama’s election, and great personal sorrow for me. There was the high of having my book published after a long hiatus from prose writing. There has been the extreme insecurity created by the meltdown of the financial markets. There’s been my wonderful new horse. I guess I’m more on the plus side then the minus side, but it has been a hell of a year.Mostly I can’t...

I’m not very good at tooting my own horn, but I’ve gotten a very nice honor. Pat at Pat’s Fantasy Hotlist has picked the EDGE OF REASON as one of his top ten novels of 2008. I’m deeply honored, and a little overwhelmed. Check it out at http://www.fantasyhotlist.blogspot.com/

Ian and I went and saw Valkyrie last night. We have a vested interest in seeing WWII movies do well, but this soon went from being a duty to an enjoyable evening. I really liked this movie.Bryan Singer really is a top notch director. I’d love to work with him someday. He uses visuals to give you so much information so quickly and painlessly. There is one beautiful scene right near the beginning of the film where a group of German officers are waiting on the...

So, we now have a commuter train, The Railrunner, that extends from Belen in the south all the way up to Santa Fe as of this week. And there are all these pleas on the local news and in the newspapers that folks not "pull off the freeway to take pictures of the passing train." (It runs down the center of I-25 for some distance.) And to "please don’t try to race the train."I love this state, but it really is a quirky place. You’d think...

I’ve been buried under dvd’s of movies that the studios want me to consider nominating for writing awards. I’ve seen several that haven’t hit the theaters yet, and I wanted to give you guys an update.Go…see… MILK. It’s a stunning film and so far has my vote for best picture. The direction is incredible. The script is great, and Sean Penn turns in the performance of his life. He’ll definitely be nomiated for best...

We’ve been hit with storm after storm here in New Mexico. Yesterday I shoveled six inches of snow off my driveway. The four wheel drive probably could have handled it, but I didn’t want to take any chances. Next I shoveled off the steps leading down into my entry courtyard, and the courtyard. It was quite a workout because I have to throw the snow up about four feet. It was also great snowball snow, very wet, and it stuck together perfectly. I...

So, the Republicans in the Senate have killed the auto bailout because they saw an opportunity to bust another union. Talk about letting ideology drive policy.Look, I’m no big fan of Detroit. I drive German cars because aside from my one ton pickup truck there wasn’t an American car I wanted to own. Management made stupid decisions — the Hummer for pity’s sake? They never though beyond the next quarter. There were union abuses, but they are...

I’ve been watching this NBC show since last season, and I was pleased to see it return this year.

Hey, Guys,The latest installment in the Wild Card universe will hit the stands on Tuesday (December 9th, 2008). My character is featured on the cover, and as usual the artwork by Michael Komarck is terrific. I also wrote the interstitial material for the book, and many and fervent thanks to George R.R. for suggesting I write it in first person. Turns out I have a real gift for first person. Who knew? I had always been terrified by it. I grew up reading Zelazny, the...
