After leaving Bodrum we wound our way through the countryside in search of more great temples. Walter’s guide book described the temple to Zeus at Euromos as the one of the best preserved temples in Asia. While we were driving down the narrow blacktop road we came upon a tiny donkey loaded down with olive branches. The pile of branches was literally taller than the donkey and twice as wide, and you could just barely make out it’s little head in a red cloth halter among...

I gave an interview to a gaming website. The proprietor, Randolf Carter, asked some very interesting questions, and I think you might find it interesting. He also interviewed Daniel Abraham, and Daniel is always incredibly thoughtful on issues of writing and creativity. You can find the interview(s) here.

I’ve seen a couple of films since the debacle that was Terminator. The Taking of Pelham 123, and last night I went and saw The Hangover. Both were quite good, but The Hangover wins. Pelham had good performances (how can you go wrong with Travolta and Denzel Washington), and thank god Tony Scott got his jiggle, shake cam out of his system during the opening credits. But the script left the tracks (forgive the pun) when they decided to take the hijackers out of the...

I spent the Fourth of July riding in a horse show down in Albuquerque. I hadn’t shown a horse in four years. I’d taken some time off to really work on Intermediare II, and the three years ago my Steppi died.I was really nervous, and I almost bailed out, but I realized I had this wonderful horse and I ought to be enjoying him outside of lessons. Well, it was a great show. I rode in three classes. I won all three, and each test my scores were...

This has been a day for feeling sick, trying to sleep until the thunder sent me leaping out of bed. Wanting to write, but the Jovian level lightning meant I didn’t dare turn on the computer. And finally just absorbing the absurdity of it all. I already posted the link to the positively brilliant Transformers review, but now I have to address the latest political whimsy. Mark Sanford, Governor of South Carolina had an affair because of — wait for it...

Okay, I haven’t seen Transformers. I wasn’t planning on seeing Transformers. I pretty much hated the first one. Then Walter Jon Williams, who is a nexus of power and all men acknowledge him, linked this this review on our chat group.I literally laughed until I cried. And now I think I have to go see this movie.

As the woman who wrote THE EDGE OF REASON, and its sequel about the dangers of fundamentalism in this country, I wanted to draw your attention to a fascinating article by Frank Shaeffer one of the founders of the Religious Right. Here’s a brief taste of what he had to say. You can read the entire article here. "Yet if the Republican/Religious Right/Neoconservative agenda had come to full fruition over the last 35 years the Republicans would have plunged...

This was posted to one of my chat groups, and it’s brilliant. Check it out. It exposes all the sexist, patriachal crap in TWILIGHT.I have neither read Twilight nor seen the movie because I pretty much sensed I would hate it, and after ths remix I’m positive I would have hated it.

Hi Guys,I just wanted to let folks know that the Aug/Sept issue of Fantasy and Science Fiction is on the stands, and I have a story in the magazine. It’s called A Token of a Better Age, and it’s the "real" story behind St. George and the Dragon as told through the prism of my EDGE universe.I’ve only had two stories appear in magazines. This one in F&SF and one in Thrilling Wonder Stories.

Like many others I have spent hours reading Andrew Sullivan’s blog at The Daily Dish, and Nicco Pitney at the Huffington Post.I’m going to link to this video posted by Hamed Rad. I’m going to warn you, it’s disturbing. You will see a young woman dying in her father’s hands. Her only crime? She went out on the street in defiance of an unjust order from a theocratic leader of an oppresive regime.Because of new technology this girl’s...

I wanted to mention that George R.R. has a sample from the upcoming Wild Card book, SUICIDE KINGS up at his website. Please do check it out. It features Rustbelt, and is written by Ian Tregillis and it’s fantastic. I’m going to try and get it posted here too, but I’ve been really, really busy writing an intro for the Roger Zelazny collection coming out from NESFA Press, and a scene from a screenplay featuring Bubonicon’s mascot, Perry Rodant for the...

I’m watching with wonder and awe the people of Iran who are taking to the streets in an effort to promote a change in their country. After the hard line statements by the Supreme Leader it’s now clear that there is going to be bloodshed. I doubt I would have the courage to go into the street. The bravery of these people is profound.I’m also smugly grinning as a science fiction writer. We saw this coming. In particular Walter Jon Williams saw this...

Sorry it took me so long to get back to posts about my amazing Turkey trip. Here is the next installment. Pamukkale, site of ancient Hierapolis, and the famed hot springs and travertine cliffs. Adam, Jimmy’s brother had booked us into a small pension, and it was great. We were greeted at the front desk by a delightful Australian woman, Ann Marie, from Brisbane. She taught English and managed the hotel. It was so inexpensive that I opted for my own room so we...

Hi, All, The amazing and wonderful Kay McCauley called to tell me that I have a new three book deal with Tor. These will be a new series — an urban fantasy written under a pseudonym set in the world of white shoe law firms and international finanace. I’m really excited.

Sorry to have been a stranger. I’ve been travelling — L.A. for meetings, San Diego for a holiday, and then Farmington for meetings with on the natural gas company. While I was in San Diego I went by Mysterious Galaxy (a wonderful book store), and the paperback of THE EDGE OF REASON is on the stands. So, if the price of a hardcover was too heartstopping please consider dropping by your favorite bookstore, or Amazon and buying ordering the book. Thanks so much. ...
