There She Goes Again

Well, Sarah Palin, the American Evita, is at it again.  Here’s here latest idiocy.      “Go back to what our founders and our founding documents meant — they’re quite clear — that we would create law based on the God of the bible and the ten commandments.” Did this woman never take an American history class?  Or did she sleep through the entire thing?  Did she never read the Tripoli Treaty?  Here’s the money...

Iron Man 2/Girl with the Dragon

I went to two movies this week.  The first the Swedish, subtitled GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO was terrific.  I had read the book first so it was interesting to see what they elected to leave out.  I had to agree with all their choices.  It’s a very different casting philosophy too.  The people looked like real people.  Our hero was a paunchy guy in his middle forties, not a Brad Pitt.  Lisbeth was interesting looking, but by no means a raving...

More Crazy

Now Franklin Graham, son of Billy Graham has weighed in, appealing to fundamentalists sense of persecution and superiority.  He got dis-invited to a Pentagon prayer breakfast because he’s said some really intolerant and hateful things about Islam, and some Muslim chaplains, and soldiers objected.  I think all religions are bunk, but can you imagine if some American Imam had said hateful and intolerant things about Christianity, but was invited to speak at the Pentagon? ...

A Lost Party

In the past two days Rush Limbaugh — spiritual if not titular leader of the Republican Party has stated the BP rig was sabotaged.  Which is sheer idiocy. And now today, John McCain, former navy pilot, POW, Senator and presidential candidate has declared the Constitution should be shredded.  He believes that a _U.S. citizen_ should not be entitled to Constitutional protections. Is power really worth this much, Senator McCain?  That you would turn against the principles that...

21st Century Research

What did we do before the interweb?  I’m working on the second Urban Fantasy, and my heroine is about to go out to dinner with the president of SAG, and I needed a trendy L.A. restaurant.  I had picked a restaurant that was trendy back when I was in L.A., and did a Google search on the place. Well, it’s closed now.  So I needed a new trendy restaurant.  Now, I could make one up, but I’m having fun going for the authentic so go to Google again, and  I...

Kick Ass

Went and saw KICK ASS last night, and ended up _totally_ loving it.  I was worried in the beginning when it felt like just another teen sad sack geek story, but then Hit Girl and her insane father (played by Nick Cage) arrived, and I was hooked. The tender father/daughter scenes where he teaches her to take a bullet, the bodyguard and the bazooka scene (if you’ve seen the film you’ll know the one I mean), the two geek wanna be superheroes in the muscle car. The dialogue was...

Pharyngula

Hi, I’ve had a new rational/skeptic site pointed out to me, and this is a good one.  It’s going to be added to the home page list, but here’s a link now for your enjoyment.  This guy is getting bookmarked.

Will He Become a Superhero?

We’re home from Colorado.  Vento got a big bran mash with carrots and Bute in it.  I called the farrier this morning to get his shoes put back on, and tomorrow he goes back to work.  I’m going to enter him in the Parker horse show up in CO the first weekend of June, and this time he doesn’t get to B.S. us.  We now know the score. So, what is the score?  First CSU is _amazing_, and the people are wonderful.  It’s part of the Agriculture...

Wall Street Music

Guys, you’ve gotta, gotta, gotta listen to this song by one of the genius’s who brought us Avenue Q.  It’s called Bet Against the American Dream, and it’s wonderful.

Interesting Link

Adam Troy-Castro provided this link on his Facebook page, and I thought it was lovely.  Here’s a money quote that might lead you to read the entire post. “When I hear Republicans accuse me, and my fellow Democrats, of “tearing up the Constitution,” I get really upset because, you see, in order to become a U.S. citizen, I studied the U. S. Constitution, cherished its immortal words, and committed its preamble to memory…and the rest, to my heart. At my...

Baffled

Assuming for the moment that the screaming racists in the Tea Party are not representative of all the members of this group, you are still left with a _really_ white, older group of people.  All of whom seem to love their social security and their Medicare, but somehow they want not to pay taxes.  Do they understand what pays for these services they enjoy? I agree the deficit is a worry, but I won’t take these people seriously until they make real suggestions about spending...

Question for Readers – Remainders

I have a serious question because it’s going to determine how many remaindered copies of The Edge of Reason I purchase. I know a lot of writers sell remaindered books at a discount price to their readers.  That way folks can pick up an out of print hardcover, etc. But I’m wondering how many people would actually be interested in autographed copies of the three new Wild Card books, or Reason in hardcover.  I’m not George R.R., and I have this vision of my storeroom...

Outraged!

Sonoma County has done something unbelievable to a gay couple.  Check out this article.  This is why gay couples need the right to marry.  These men did everything right, spent a lot of money having legal documents drawn up to protect their rights, and it was all ignored. This is just sickening, and it’s got to stop.  I sick to death of the actions of religious zealots destroying people’s lives.  If marriage equality in CA hadn’t been repealed these...

Living On Line

On the recommendation of several friends I joined a site called Goodreads.  It’s a place where people share book recommendations, form groups, etc. etc.  It’s a lovely idea, but I feel really embarrassed because these people read _a lot_, and I’ve managed to post four reviews so far. When I was a kid I read about a book a day (Dad taught me to read before I started school, and he taught me how to speed read).  Anyway, I read a lot.  Used to drive my mother...

Eeeeek!

I have the wrong time for the signing at Barnes and Noble tomorrow.  It starts at 1:00 not 1:30 as I told my web manager, and announced to various people. Sorry, I’m a dumb ass.
