My friend Steve Leigh has recommended Scrivener.  Daniel Abraham has tried Scrivener.  Daniel gave me a tour of the software, and I think I’m going to go for it.  It sets up a “cork board” on my computer where I can have the cards that sketch in the events of each chapter, and there is a place to keep track of characters, organizations, etc.  Since I’m a person who really plots a book before I start writing I think this is going to be a helpful tool.

I realized as I was trying to construct my White Fang law firm that I really needed to populate the firm, and I was scrolling back through pages to keep track of associates, partners, made up court decisions, etc.

Since this is the first book in a three book contract, and since I’m working on the third Edge book I’m beginning to amass a huge amount of background and characters, and I think this program is really going to help.

I just hope the learning curve isn’t too steep and won’t take too long.  I’ve got to get this book finished.  I also hope I can easily import the 50,000 plus words I’ve already written into Scrivener.

I just sent an email to the company to be certain I can download the software onto both the desktop and the laptop since I move between both machines.

Anyway, I’ll let you know how this experiment goes.
