So I had a wonderful exchange with my veterinarian, and I just had to share.  Stuart is one of the those soft spoken western gentlemen who is always dressed in his cowboy hat, cowboy boots, jeans, work shirt and a vest.

I’ve had several people ask about breeding their mares to Vento, and I was amenable as long as we didn’t do natural cover.  I didn’t want to risk him getting kicked, and I thought if he mounted a dummy and we collected the semen it would keep him from becoming a typically rank stallion.

But Stuart disabused me of this notion stating that the act of being teased by a mare in heat, and then mounting _anything_ might result in a change in his disposition.  He then asked what I wanted to do with Vento.

I told him I wanted a fabulous show horse.  Stuart pushed back his hat, and thought about it, then said.  “It’s hard for a horse to go from breedin’, back into the discipline and concentration of the show ring.  It’s sorta like askin’ somebody to do algebra in a titty bar.”

Of course after the words left his mouth Stuart turned beet red, and began apologizing profusely.  Of course I was laughing so hard I could barely tell him that he hadn’t offended me in the least.

So there’s the new mantra whenever you’re trying to describe doing something hard.  🙂
