So, I had this series going.  About the war between science and rationality and superstition and religion.  It was getting nice reviews and I was getting feedback from readers that they liked the books.  I knew where I wanted the series to end.  I had all kinds of stories that would torment and test my hero.

Unfortunately in publishing the writer actually writing is about 10% of the effort to get a book onto the stands and into reader’s hands.  90% of what happens is completely beyond the control of the writer.  And that’s what happened to me.  I did my job.  I wrote and delivered the second book on time despite having a year from hell.  Then, for reasons I will not enumerate, the book was delayed two years.  Which sorta killed my momentum.

The problem is that readers can only assume two things if they don’t know the back story.

1.  That I’m a feckless person who didn’t write the books and deliver them on time.

2.  That I delivered the book and it was so crappy that it was sent back for a complete rewrite.

Neither of those is true and I just wanted my readers to know what happened.  I’m sorry.  I do respect you and I tried to keep the implied promise to you that I would keep entertaining you if you committed to my fantasy ride.

I’m  working on book three — THE EDGE OF DARKNESS and maybe there will be a resurrection of the Edge series at my publisher.  I’ll keep you posted.
