I can’t believe I added Starz to my service so I could watch this show.  I loved the British show.  Yes, it was dark, but I cared about those people — particularly Gwen and Captain Jack.  Then came that mess called The Children of Men where characters were killed for no damn reason, and Gwen turned into a wilting flower and Jack got stupid and passive.

Then I hear that Torchwood is coming to Starz and I got excited.  I thought the pilot was very slow to get started, but it finally did kick in, and the following three episodes were getting better and more interesting.

And then it got stupid.  Really, really stupid.  Let me tell you, if the survival of humanity is dependent on this team we are all doomed.  People stand in the middle of a secure camp, and berate bad guys, and threaten them with the police and prosecution.  Then they get killed or captured.

A supposed C.I.A. analyst doesn’t even imagine that the house might be under surveillance when she goes to check on her sister so she leads the bad guys right back to the team.

Jack just seems to be doing random, in your face things that make no sense.

Gwen and her husband break into a secure camp, and try to take out her father only daddy has a heart attack, and so they can’t move him.  But none of the authorities seem to notice that this pair tried to violate the rules, and leaves them free to run around, steal trucks, people, etc.

And don’t get me started on the idea that a hideous child molester and murderer has become a profit.  Except sometimes people hate him and other times they love him.  And the writers/producers of the show seem to think a picture of hideous child molester/murder holding up a baby girl is going to make him _more_ popular.

This feels like a show that knows it’s in trouble so they’re just throwing everything into the mix.  Kitchen sinks, ostriches, Tea Party people, sexy secretaries, orangutans, a marching band, etc. etc.

It’s rather like the final season of Galactica.  I hated it but I kept watching just to see the spectacular train wreck at the end.  I guess I’m going to be doing the same with Torchwood.
