I’m a news junkie so I’ve been unable to avoid learning way more than I want to know about the “Balloon Boy” hoax.  The more I hear about the father and mother, but more particularly the father, the worse I feel.  Oddly enough for this obsessed and driven man.

What is it about Hollywood that it’s so alluring and so addictive?  These had a taste of fame, and to get it back they were driven to set up a totally stupid stunt.

I feel it a bit myself.  Having worked in Hollywood, had the thrill of describing a room or a space ship, and then _having someone build it_, hearing actors deliver your dialogue, watching dailies to see how a director interprets your vision….  What can I say, it’s a high.

But it seems like this desperate need for fame, to be noticed has gone to another level.  Is is YouTube?  Reality shows?  What is driving people to put their lives and futures in jeopardy to get on the television machine?  And it’s not just visual cues.  People use Twitter and blogs to post the most private and personal information.  Why?  Do we feel so disconnected that the only way we can find connection is on line?

It just seems like the concept of a simple and peaceful life well lived has gone out of fashion.
