I’ve been buried under dvd’s of movies that the studios want me to consider nominating for writing awards.  I’ve seen several that haven’t hit the theaters yet, and I wanted to give you guys an update.

Go…see… MILK.  It’s a stunning film and so far has my vote for best picture.  The direction is incredible.  The script is great, and Sean Penn turns in the performance of his life.  He’ll definitely be nomiated for best actor.  I think he should win.

But Frank Langella will give him a run for his money.  Langella turns into an incredible performance as Nixon in FROST/NIXON.  This is another terrific film, but it can’t stand up to the white hot glare of MILK.

Lined up for me to find time to watch is DOUBT, DEFIANCE, THE WESTLER, THE VISITOR, REVOLUTIONARY ROAD and CHANGELING.

It’s always fun this time of year, but I like to go out to the movies.  I like to sit in the middle of an audience and experience the emotional roller coaster.  When you’re home alone, or with another person or two it doesn’t have quite the same energy.  Maybe you can evaluate better when you’re not being swept away, but it’s not as much fun.

Maybe I need to make popcorn.  🙂
