Integrity and Perserverance

I was reflecting about President Obama today as I was running errands.  Thinking about how Rick Santorum accused him of hubris and snobbery.  And I realized that they’re reacting to this man’s incredible control and dignity.

I was thinking about the Ken Burns documentary about baseball and remembering how Jackie Robinson behaved when he was the first African-American in major league baseball.  He was warned by the white team owner that he could never lose control.  Never react to the slings and arrows and he didn’t.

When I think of the crap that’s been launched at President Obama and his wife and children I think their elegance and control is just remarkable.  I know I would have blown up by now.

They are the embodiment of what Republicans say they want.  A stable loving two parent family, children who work hard at school.  Parents who went to college and law school.  Built careers.  Dear god, the president’s mother was on food stamps when he was a kid, but he worked to make it.

This is a man who said the private sector, the core of this country, is “the enemy”. A man who has said out loud that he can’t wait for Congressional checks and balances, so he’s just going to see what he can get away with using executive orders. A man who openly committed acts of war against another country without even pretending to get Constitutionally required Congressional approval (hey, I have no sympathy for Libya and I’m glad we attacked, but I would have made the case to Congress; but then, I believe in the rule of law). A man who just flat-out ignored both statute and judicial precedent in ignoring the secured creditors of GM in favor of his union buddies. It’s not the president’s job to “transform” the country. No, this man is NOT the embodiment of what Republicans want and I hope it’s not the embodiment of what you or anyone else who respects this country wants. He certainly doesn’t show any evidence of integrity- if he did, he would not have ignored the Senate and appointed someone to an office that requires Senate approval; the president does not get to decide if the Senate is in session. That act alone warrants impeachment. Integrity? With this example, your understanding of the definition is in question.

I stand by my statements, Scott, and I disagree vehemently with you characterization of the President. But since we are not likely to ever agree I don’t see a lot of point in continuing this discussion. And I was discussing the man’s ability to withstand with grace and dignity the hateful, racist slurs that have been flung at him in the same manner as Jackie Robinson.

    Re: a previous post.
Obviously 1 of the Gingrich supporters I mentioned on 12/05/11 has decided to make & embody my point.
I won’t waste my valuable time posting links to dispute the erroneous claims posted. They’re not on Fox News, Rush Limbaugh’s radio program or Stormfront.org so they’ll definitely be ignored.

But the poster is right about 1 thing. President Obama is not what the GOP wants. Considering what Rick Santorum has been quoted saying re: African Americans & gays, Gingrich’s disdain for African Americans, the poor, et al, not to mention his & Romney’s homophobia & lack of integrity in the realms of infidelity, profiteering, etc; the GOP obviously wants racists, bigots & liars in the Oval Office. President Obama is none of those horrific things.
