Worried and Scared

I'm becoming increasingly alarmed by the level of vitriol coming out of the unhinged right.  Some of it seemed laughable.  The Birthers, the Death Panels, the Tenthers -- dear god, the governor of Minnesota argued he could use the Tenth amendment to block heath care reform in his state and _he's a friggin' lawyer!!!_  This isse has been definitively settled by the Supreme Court, and by a little event that you may have heard of -- The Civil War.

I dipping in a bit to check out the latest Tea Party march in Washington, and  some of the signs and rhetoric are scaring the living daylights out of me.

My reading indicates that the level of hate was about the same just before J.F.K. was shot (I was a little too young to actually remember), and with this current president we add the explosive issue of race.

I think Congressman Joe Wilson was a symptom of a group of Southern white men who can't stand the fact they are losing power to women and minorities, and cannot accept a black man as POTUS.

I very much fear some lone wingnut is going to take a shot.  I just hope the Secret Service will be able to deal with it when/if it happens.  Because if Obama were to be killed I think it would tear this country apart.

Went and saw 9 last night.  It looked really great, and it was a wonderful premise, but ultimately it was a disappointment.  If you don’t have a story and a script you ultimately don’t have anything.

I realized the movie was in trouble when the script kept sending the little rag dolls running off to various locations, and then back to those locations.  All the while the rag dolls kept ignoring THE REALLY BIG CLUE while they ran to and fro.

And once again you have a story built on people acting illogically and stupidly.  In Star Trek you had the P.O.’d Romulan chasing after Spock and destroying Vulcan rather than going home and telling folks to Move!!! because this big nova was going to happen 26 years in the future.

In 9 the creator of the rag dolls leaves a movie for his last rag doll, but he never leaves him the crucial piece of information.  “This doohickey you found with the weird symbols on it -- if you find a big machine with a slot that matches the shape of the doohickey -- _don’t put the doohickey in the slot!!!!_  And by the way, the reason I created you... well, I’m not actually sure why I created you or what you are supposed to do, but it’s important and spiritual and shit.  I’m sure you’ll work it out.”

This has a wonderful look, but don’t expect the story to make any damn sense.
