The glorious march back into the dark ages continues. Led by Republicans and the Tea Party. Two stories in today’s news just floored me.
The first is about the desire of some/many on the right to curtail voting rights. Check out this story about Tea Party Nation President, Judson Phillips advocating a return to allowing only property owners to vote.
The entire history of the Constitution is about the expansion and enlargement of rights. Now this crowd wants to take us back at least 230 years.
And then there’s tax incentives in Kentucky being used to build a Creationist Theme Park. Yeah, that’s a good use of the state’s money. How about a research facility for green energy? Or full scholarships to students in the sciences? And if they don’t want to fund anything real and meaningful I’d rather have them take that money and through a giant block party for the whole state. At least people could eat a few hotdogs, drink a few beers and have some fun. Instead they’re going to help build something that will make people dumber. Good move Kentucky.
In terms of moving backwards this crowd wants to take us back to the Middle Ages. Makes the Tea Party president look reasonable.
And that is a truly frightening thought.
