I was referred to this blog post by a writer’s chat group to which I belong, and I found it very interesting and enlightening for any folks who are contemplating entering the weird and wonderful world of writing. There is a somewhat condescending tone to the post, but it’s filled with valuable information for writers so I gave that a pass. In my other life I run Western Minerals and Oil LLC, and I have to make hard choices based on business models so I found this peek into how chain bookstores operate to be particularly helpful. And in the interest of full disclosure — I’m one of those writers who was skipped by Borders. We’ll see how adversely this affects my sales. I’ve long ago learned not to go crazy over these things because in the words of the inestimable Daniel Abraham, “We are all gamblers.”
